Children’s Workshop: Everything Upside Down in the Camera Obscura

As part of the exhibition HALF FRAME by Maria Toumazou, a creative workshop for children took place with the Camera Obscura at its center – a simple yet fascinating optical device considered a precursor to the photographic camera.
The workshop invited young participants to playfully explore the basics of light, shadow, and image projection. Together, the children built their own Camera Obscura and discovered how images of the outside world can be captured and turned upside down using simple materials. In the process, they gained a vivid understanding of technical principles while experiencing the magic of early image-making in a creative way.

The workshop provided an accessible introduction to photographic and physical concepts, encouraging curiosity, experimentation, and hands-on creation. As part of the broader educational program accompanying the exhibition, it offered a playful approach to the themes and artistic inquiries explored in HALF FRAME.
