In the listening session, Elisaveta Braslavskaja invited the audience to immerse themselves in her personal sound history. The focus was on Persian songs that had accompanied her over many years—music that played in her parents’ house, was stored on old MP3 players, or sounded through the speakers on long car rides.
These songs were part of a private archive – not consciously collected, but grown out of everyday, often casual moments: a song by the singer Googoosh, whose first CD she had received as a gift from her father. Pieces she had discovered on an MP3 player – a gift that contained a messy but beloved mix of Persian funk and pop. And recordings of classical Persian music by Mohammad-Reza Shajarian, which had become a constant companion on car journeys.
For Braslavskaja, this music is not only aural memory, but also emotional space: connected to home, family, and intimate, shared experiences. The audience included residents of Lübeck, among them members of the Iranian cultural association Toranj, as well as neighborhood associations of Lübeck residents and Iranians. This is precisely why sharing these sounds with others became a meaningful practice—a gesture of closeness, belonging, and cultural transmission.
