The listening session THE SOUND OF THE ARCHIVE with Alejandra Coz Rosenfeld was more than just an auditory experience—it was an invitation to remember, listen, and understand together. Alejandra Coz Rosenfeld is the daughter of Lotty Rosenfeld, one of Latin America’s most important artists. Rosenfeld’s work was created under the oppressive atmosphere of the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile. Amidst repression and danger, she created an artistic space of resistance – often in close collaboration with friends and companions. The studio became a place of retreat and resonance, where conversation, art, and music were interwoven in a special way. During the listening session, Alejandra Coz Rosenfeld invited the audience to immerse themselves in this world of sound. Together, they listened to a selection of cassettes and records from the artist’s archive – including Musica Libre, Nina Simone, Violeta Parra, Ravi Shankar, and historical documentation of political upheavals in Chile entitled Chile entre dolor… y la Esperanza.
The listening session was accompanied by Alejandra Coz Rosenfeld’s personal memories and thoughts about her mother’s life and work. In addition, the audience had the unique opportunity to hear recordings made by her grandfather, Ernst Rosenfeld. He fled Nazi Germany in 1935 and built a new life for himself in Chile. The music and recordings thus became vehicles for stories—about everyday life in the resistance, about hope and loss, political utopias, and artistic courage. In this listening session, biography, sound, and history intertwined to create a powerful collective experience.
